Greetings Everyone,

Health and healing is in high focus for many. For those seeking new answers the field of energy medicine offers some innovative perspectives and approaches. Energy therapies work with the subtle energy infrastructure of the body. The subtle energy system of the human body is made up of many different fields of energy, including the biofield (auric field), meridians and chakras. These interactive fields of energy both take in information and emit information. Energy medicine uses knowledge of these energy systems to promote health and healing at all levels.

Our bio-energetic system operates beyond the way we receive and take in information through the five senses. Subtle energy works at the level of frequency and vibration. Working at this level of energy provides information beyond that accessible to us through our physical senses. In our daily lives we experience this energetic form of information when we pick up a positive feeling when walking into a room, versus feeling the energy in the room as discordant or uncomfortable. Someone standing too close to you for comfort, or a feeling that you lose energy around certain people or circumstances are some examples of how we may experience this non-verbal, energetic form of communication.

Energy medicine has a long history. Working with energy in this way is not a new idea. Acupuncture is at least 5,000 years old and many indigenous and shamanic cultures, such as the Q’ero shaman of Peru, have an ancient worldview based on a knowing that everything is created of living energy, the human body as well as all aspects of the world around us. From the Q’ero perspective this living energy makes up the very fabric of our reality, and this world of living energy can be communicated and interacted with for the benefit of an individual, the collective or the planet.[1]

“For an Andean paqo (shaman), the world of nature is alive and responsive, and the cosmos is a vibrating field of pure energy.”

– Joan Parisi Wilcox, “Masters of the Living Energy”

All living organisms are systems of electromagnetic energy fields. Where shamans, healers and intuitives have been able to access the world of invisible or subtle energy, science now has the ability to photograph and see a visible expression of the state of a person’s energy using devices such as the cutting-edge Bio-Well camera. This technology captures bio-photonic energy emissions from the fingers, which provides a visual assessment of the body’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual state. With new imaging techniques such as this signs of imbalance can be detected in the body before it shows up as a disease or through traditional medical testing.[2]

HeartMath research has shown that when we are in positive emotional states our electromagnetic field becomes more coherent. When we are in a coherent state our body, mind and emotions are aligned and our awareness is expanded and information and guidance becomes increasingly available. This in turn helps to regulate the physiology of our body such as our autonomic nervous system, which helps to manage sleep and energy levels, hormonal balance, immune systems, blood pressure, and healing to neurotransmitters and brain functions.[3]

Physiologist, cellular biologist and biophysicist James L. Oschman, PhD provides a deeper understanding of the physics of energy healing in his book “Energy Medicine – The Scientific Basis”. He offers a scientific definition of energy medicine as the “diagnostic and therapeutic use of energy, whether detected by or produced by a medical device or by the human body.”[4]

Many therapists and healers experience, what James Oschman terms, a magnetic sense when working with their hands close to the surface of a client’s body. This magnetic sensing within a person’s biofield is a tool that assists in locating disturbed or compromised energy, which is often connected to physical health issues or emotional or psychological challenges. In acupuncture, points identified as having electrical sensitivity are activated with a needle to rebalance the energy flows within the body. Tapping uses gentle tapping on specific acupuncture points to calm the stress response and produce neurological shifts in brain function. The tapping method reduces or eliminates the energetic interference that is at the heart of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges, often bringing insight to the “bigger picture” of the disturbance. These modalities and many more are part of a growing picture of who we are energetically and how to interface with the fullness of our energetic selves.

“Medicine is an agent that is used to heal or prevent disease. In energy medicine, energy is the medicine. And in energy medicine, this medicine is applied to the body’s energies. Energy heals, and energy systems are healed.”

– Donna Eden, "Energy Medicine"

The evidence-based track record of using energy therapies includes many beneficial outcomes including – helping the physical body to heal, clearing emotional and psychological pain or trauma, gaining clarity, improved work, school, sports and artistic performance and increased intuition and creativity. Many of these energy modalities also help to develop our connection with and trust of our inner guidance system. When we open our minds to our sophisticated sensory and energetic systems, and learn how to tune into them and work with them, we begin to benefit from the valuable information available – for healing, for guidance, for life.

Electromagnetically yours,

Deborah
