Evolution & Our Subconscious Mind

Trying to understand why things are the way they are is a frequent focus for many. In his book “Power vs. Force” Dr. David R. Hawkins explores the energetic levels of human consciousness and how these various levels express themselves emotionally. Acceptance, as outlined by Hawkins, is a level of awareness where major evolutionary transformation within an individual takes place. At this level of awareness we develop the understanding “that one is oneself the source and creator of the experience of one’s life.”[1] When we reach this point in our personal evolution it allows us to get in touch with how we may be in league with generating the experiences we have in our life. This often leads us to begin to question and acquaint our self with what may be driving our actions and responses at a subconscious level.
“The biggest impediments to realizing the successes of which we dream are the limitations programmed into the subconscious. These limitations not only influence our behavior, they can also play a major role in determining our physiology and health.”
– Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., “The Biology of Belief”
The subconscious mind lies just below our conscious awareness and influences our actions and feelings. It stores and retrieves data from instincts, learned information and experiences. Because the subconscious mind is habitual and runs just below our awareness we can find ourselves reacting to current situations based on past experiences or programming that may not be beneficial, or applicable to present circumstances.
Self worth is an example. For most of us there are certain criteria that we believe must be met in order for us to feel successful, loved and accepted. The criterion most often comes from an outside source such as parents, teachers, partners, employers or cultural institutions but we rarely question the perspective or truth of that source. The opinions and perspectives of others may leave us with the belief that we are “not enough” in some way. Once the lack of self worth virus has been planted it operates like a computer program running silently in the background filtering everything through it as if it is the truth of who we are or are not. We translate our experiences through that filter – what people say, and even what people don’t say – as a judgment on our value and capability. Self doubt, lack of confidence, self-judgment, judgment of others, anxiety, depression and feeling powerless are some of the symptoms of the subconscious programming that may be at work.
Pausing from time to time to identify what subconscious programs may be running your life is a highly useful exercise. When we are able to access the consciousness level of acceptance, we rise above the limiting belief that we are powerless or not enough. We are able to identify and step out of old beliefs and programing that we have received from others. We are able to free our self from shame, guilt and fear stories that may be running our life. We are no longer driven by our anger, arrogance, regret or denial. At this level of awareness we cease seeing our self as powerless or as a victim, and we stop seeking validation through others. And when we make a practice of clearing out our subconscious closet our life begins to change in positive ways.
From this more conscious vantage point we are able to see a much bigger picture. We move out of the arena of limiting or polarized perspectives and responses, and instead move towards understanding, tolerance and acceptance for our self as well as others. We become more fully authentic, with confidence in expressing who we are and the ability to create a life that is of value to us.
How can we develop the higher aspects of our own consciousness and self- understanding?
Become a self-observer. Notice when you are emotionally triggered (defensive, oversensitive, angry…)
Question your beliefs and assumptions about your self, about others, about life. Beliefs and assumptions do not equal the truth.
Be aware of what motivates you. Is it to appease or fulfill someone else’s needs or desires or do the motivations arise from within you?
Remember that other peoples perspectives and opinions are just that – theirs. They don’t define you unless you allow it.
“Myths and superstitions have power over us only to the extent that we believe them, but when we believe, we live completely under their spell and in that fiction.”
– Lynne Twist, “The Soul of Money”
Subconscious programs can sometimes be tricky to find because they have become the normal backdrop to our life – invisible yet affecting everything we experience. Assistance from a qualified ally who can help you track and release the limiting or self-sabotaging filters that have made a home in your psyche and your heart can be very helpful.
May we evolve together,
Deborah
