When scanning the worldwide collective energy it is evident that power – what it is, who has it, who doesn’t – is particularly highlighted now and at the core of everyone’s experience. In the majority of energy sessions with clients, the underlying theme is about personal power – what is it, why don’t I feel like I have it, and how do I get some? Understanding what power is, and what power is not, is at the core of these questions.

Power is sometimes confused with force. Force uses the energy of fear, aggression, revenge, manipulation and judgment. The use of force to create what is wanted often generates resistance, pain, suffering, anger and violence. The use of force separates, polarizes and disempowers.[1]The focus is on power over. Power, on the other hand, uses the energy of love, compassion and forgiveness. It uplifts and energizes; it supports and nurtures. Power energy unifies and empowers. The focus is on on power with. These energies operate at both the personal and collective level.
Personal power is a state of being. It is grounded in the understanding that we are energetic in nature and emit a field of energy with our thoughts, emotions and beliefs. This field environment that we each emanate communicates, interfaces and influences everything around us – our individual relationships and experiences, social interactions, and it can even influence our collective, planetary environment. The quality or vibrational frequency of our thoughts, emotions and beliefs colors the energies that we are radiating. This in turn affects our immediate environment with those “colors”. At the heart of personal power is becoming conscious of and responsible for our own energy, and how we choose to use and direct that energy.
We know from the world of physics that there is a process by which a field of a particular frequency or wavelength can transfer vibrational energy from one object to another, known as resonance.[2] Evidenced throughout the natural world, this transfer of energy is demonstrated in the phenomenon of spontaneous or mutual synchronization. Many know the example of two pendulum clocks, started randomly and in close proximity, synchronizing their swing over time. [3] Another example of mutual synchronization can be seen within the human body where female menstrual cycles become synchronized among women in close proximity.
“The phenomenon of spontaneous synchronization is found in circadian rhythms, heart & intestinal muscles, insulin-secreting cells in the pancreas, ambling elephants, drummers drumming, menstrual cycles, and fireflies, among others.”[4]
Scientific perspectives about the nature of our reality and how it works have been continuously evolving and expanding. Of particular importance is the understanding that the universe is a complex living system, interconnected with all other living systems, including human beings. When a living system is working well all parts within the system are aligned and harmonious – like a well practiced choir. Coherence is a term used to describe this state of harmonious connectedness between parts. When, for example, the system of the human body is in a coherent state there is minimal energy wasted because our biological system is performing optimally, there is synchronization between the systems of the body and there are smooth, ordered heart-rhythm patterns.[5]When we are in a coherent state we experience proper immune system function, good energy levels, clarity, and a calm state of being. Intuition is enhanced as well. This highly efficient state of coherence creates alignment of body, mind, emotion and spirit.
Researchers at the HeartMath Institute have measured and studied the electromagnetic field generated by the heart and found some very interesting information. Studies have shown that the heart is the most powerful energy field produced by the body, and that others can detect the heart’s electromagnetic field, with measureable effects, up to 5 feet away. Also of note are their findings that the electromagnetic field of the heart becomes more organized when a person is in a coherent state.
“We are learning much more about how and why our presence, and especially our moods and emotions can affect others and how we can sense how others are feeling. Our mere presence can help others feel better and more comfortable, or ill at ease and anxious.”
– Rollin McCraty, Ph.D.; Doc Childre – HeartMath
When we consciously work with the natural phenomena of resonance, the transference of energy seen with spontaneous mutual synchronization, and then add the energy of coherence we become a powerful tool of influence. HeartMath science puts it this way:
"It is postulated that as increasing numbers of people add coherent energy to the global field, it helps strengthen and stabilize mutually beneficial feedback loops among human beings and with the earth itself."
– Rollin McCraty, Ph.D.; Doc Childre – HeartMath
How do we achieve states of coherence? It starts from the inside out.
Become aware of when you’re expressing force rather than power. Do you often find yourself angry, resentful, in resistance, or trying to push the situation, yourself or others?
Address and heal old emotional wounds so they don’t take center stage in your energy expression.
Heal your body.
Cultivate positive emotions. Positive emotional states create coherence. Recalling happy memories, looking for things that are going well in your life and around the world, appreciating your friends, family, your pet, your self; reading or watching something that inspires and uplifts you – are some of the ways to promote coherence. Creative pastimes, like painting, writing, dancing, playing or listening to music, are also pathways to the coherent state. Just sitting quietly, focusing on your heart center and allowing each breath to expand your heart can create the shift into coherence.
“Whenever we shift vibration, especially when we go from a low vibrational situation to consciously shifting to a personal high vibration, we are transforming and morphing the entire human collective “agreement” of what happens.”
– Inelia Benz
This is the new technology – we are the new technology. The new energy technology is not outside of us in our cell phones, computers or other sundry devices and applications. Our personal power lies within us and is a creative force to be reckoned with. Personally, the more we are in the state of coherence the better our life experience becomes. The more we are in coherence, the more coherent the global field becomes through processes such as mutual synchronization. Coherence brings forth the energies of compassion, creativity, cooperation, appreciation, healing and health. You have more power than you know.
Cultivate coherence,
Deborah
